Monday Morning Update

Raise your hand if you feel as though you've been hit by a truck?

It's interesting to asses how my body feels after 4 tough days of swim + bike + run + repeat. I am tired. I AM sore. But I also want to keep going...

California is great, and the prospect of our "last ride" has me a little sad.

Yes - there probably will be tears (mine), but Thomas and Liz have some challenge going about climbinb a big big big hill.

Thomas told Liz that, "In an hour and fifteen minutes, I'll show you what it means to climb!"

Without missing a beat, Liz responded, "Oh - you mean when I'm already done at the top?"

I just sat back and laughed. It's been a great weekend, full of great/epic/tough/hard/incredible/fill-in-the-blank training sessions, and now we've got our last ride.

Liz vs Thomas.

Thomas vs Liz.

While I don't aspire to sit at the back, for the first time, I think the view will be well worth my effort (or lack thereof).

No - I take that back. I'll still be working my butt off, climbing in the gearing that Chris instructed me to use. But I'll have a heckuva good time watching Liz and Thomas go at it.

That is, if I can look up quickly enough to see them without falling off my bike. I think Soledad hill is pretty steep.

Another challenge.

Another opportunity.

And I can't wait.

Marit,
I've also been "lurking" on your blog, feeling lucky to have a glimpse into the life of such a motivated person. It has been so nice to see that there really are people like you (friendly AND tough at the same time) in the endurance world.
You may not realize it, but you're quite inspiring to me, and not simply for your athletic accomplishments. Your humility, humor, and passion are what keep me reading, and I can't wait to hear about your great recovery.
Get well soon!

Marit,
So sorry to hear about your accident. My wife (Amber) and I enjoy your writing (and were both Nordic skiers in Minnesota). We will both try to HTFU for you at IM AZ. Good luck with your recovery.

Marit,
I am praying for your swift recovery, and would send you a cake if I knew where to send it. After my ACL surgery, my best friend baked me the most delicious, calorie-laden thing which helped keep the tears and pain at bay.
You will survive this, and we will be there cheering you on!

Hi Marit,

I am one of Liz's athletes and have been lurking on your blog for awhile now.

You have my best wishes and best thoughts for your recovery. Your blog is one of my favorites to read both for the glimpses into your training and triathlon life but also for your humor, warmth and positivity.

Keep all of that up, I am sure you will. This adversity will make you stronger.

Marit,
I, like many others, found you via Liz's blog and have been enjoying reading the different points of view you both give. So imagine my sadness to hear of your crash. I know you will recover before you can say holy smokes batman, and will be all the stronger for it. Sending healing vibes your way.

I hope your surgery went really well and you are on your way to a speedy recovery. Nothing will take away the disappointment of missing this first time big event you've invested so much into but you will come back even STRONGER and your first ironman will be even MORE special. :-)

Day after surgery. I was so happy to read your Mom's comments recapping the doctor. I can tell from this and Liz's comments you are feeling much better. GREAT NEWS! with gentle hugs, Ashley's Mom

Just another thought. One of the things I do not like about NA sports is their policy on refunds/no deferments. You are a perfect example why there should be allowed a deferment to another IM race. You will be up and running for the fall IMAZ!!! Instead, you lose most of your money. I am miffed for you on this one. It's not fair.

Lurker here too.. Hope you are feeling better soon!

The body heals at the rate of positive attitude so I know you will be back in the game soon! Summer is coming up and you will be fine by then!

Hi Marit,
Another stranger here, but one bearing well wishes for recovery and prayers that this pain and the recovery process that will follow will only purify your beautiful passion and determination to push yourself to the limit. You inspire me, and I look forward to hearing even more stories of your PT and process that will come back to me when I'm hurting on the bike, in the water or on the run!

Dang ... I'm sorry to hear about your crash and the required surgery ... I try to keep the thought of crashing out of my head ... because I don't want to go there again ...

But from what Liz posted ...

It sounds like you are already on top of the moving on thing ...

We will be waiting to hear about your recovery ... and you will be in my prayers ...

Marit,

You also don't know me and I'm not even a triathlete, either! However, I frequently lurk at your blog via Beth's because you're such a positive person and hard worker. Those traits make us better athletes in whatever sport we do, so your blog is highly motivating for me as a trail runner.

I'm very sorry to hear of your crash, so close to your first Ironman race. I'm glad that you're alright (or, rather, that you'll be alright). And, I empathize with the mourning I'm sure you're doing about not being able to race.

Take care of your body and your mind, and recover quickly. Big healing wishes coming to you from Wyoming!

You are in our thoughts and prayers!

You're strong and you’re going to get STRONGER.

Way to show the Tri gods who's in charge of your life.

YOU!

Go get 'em girl!

Hey tough girl. Funny how things can change so quickly. Hang on to those dreams and before long they'll change again, for the far better. Your fantastic fitness will see you through this like a champ. Oh, and don't let any stupid doctors try and tell you what you CAN'T do. You know better.

Hello. Take care Marit. I can't wait until you are healthy and non-medicated enough :) to be back to blogging and training. Thank you for sharing your stories and life with all of us.

Marit- or as i've called you for the last 4 days "Merit"- Found myself running again today and as always saw a cactus- and then thought how thrilled you would be to see one, and how you'd be announcing it to us all like it was a once in a lifetime occurence. Then the tempo part came, and as you know, words get stuck in my head when i'm in pain, so today's word was "Chrislock-Lauterbach" And let me tell you at LT that is one heck of a mouthful !

Remember this if nothing else- you are an elite/national calibur athlete. All those DR's are basing thier info on some couch potato-chip eating-house wife (no disrepect to the lovely house-wives out there). You are stronger than they could ever imagine, you will heal faster, you will be better.

Don't you dare loose that positive outlook and giddy-ness.

Get well, in the meantime i'll work on figuring out the second letter of your name, so i can cheer you on at your next race.

Hey Marit - Saw you in the hospital yesterday. Call me if you need anything. Lorrie and I will pop into the hospital a few times before we leave town. It was great to meet your dad and I'm looking forward to meeting Nate too. As a Badger, Czech and Norge...you are tough as nails and I will look forward to training with you again soon. Keep "flips" the dolphin close.
